Handbrake is an open source utility designed for Windows PC users. With its help, you can convert your homemade videos between multiple file formats, without losing their quality in the process.
The application features a user-friendly interface, supports batch conversion, and lets you choose between a wide variety of output formats. The offered output profiles are compatible with various media devices, like iPhones, Apple TVs, Android smartphones, Playstation, etc.
In my testing, I imported a 37 second MTS file and chose to convert it to a format compatible with Apple TV. The utility took a while to offer me the video file I needed (more than 4 minutes), but the quality of the original file was preserved.
However, the application is missing some features which are accessible in other video converters. For instance, it doesn't provide you with an option to extract soundtracks from your homemade movies. Also, it lacks a video trimming option which might come in handy if you need to convert only a segment from the imported video.
Still, the program comes at no cost, so you have nothing to lose by downloading and installing Handbrake on your PC.
